Hey there, welcome back to my online affiliate journey! A few posts ago, I threw out an invitation for you to tag along as I kick-started my online affiliate business alongside my mentor, Dean Holland, using Affiliate System software. Starting any business involves a bit of a learning curve, right? That’s where my blogs come in. I’m here to share my successes and even the occasional hiccup, hoping it might guide you through the ups and downs of starting your own online business. Let’s learn from each other!

What I have accomplished thus far.

1. Chose and purchased my domain name.

2. Setup domain name on Cloudflare.

You can read my previous post here.

Next steps taken.

  1. Connect my domain name to owned asset, my own platform on the internet.
  2. Chose a theme and activate.

Time to jazz things up with some plugins! I remember thinking, “Plugins? Whoa, sounds kinda technical and maybe a bit tricky.” But fear not! Plugins are like magical bits of software that seamlessly “plug in” to your WordPress site. They can sprinkle in new features or enhance the ones you already have. It’s like giving your site a cool upgrade without the tech hassle!

The plugins I added:

Anti-spam plugin. To help fight spam comments.

Security plugin. To help keep site safe.

SEO plugin. To support search engine rankings.

Resources plugin. To help speed up site.

Links plugin. To manage links with ease.

These are all free to use.

Now that WordPress and my “owned asset” are up and running, the real adventure begins! The biggest challenge on my horizon is staying committed to the plan long enough to bask in the rewards. It’s all about keeping up with regular blog posts and sharing the journey with my readers (who are like friends). Dedication and perseverance are the secret sauce – here’s to the exciting ride ahead!

Sure, there might be moments when I feel a bit lost, but with the right guidance, I’m confident I’ll keep making progress. My mentor has this golden rule: dedicate at least 1 hour a day to your business, and success will follow. So, here’s my promise to you, my friends—I’m fully committed to putting in that minimum 1-hour work daily, and together, we’ll reach those success milestones!

Conclusion.

Thanks to my mentor’s guidance, I’ve accomplished more steps than I could have on my own. Having someone to provide direction truly makes a world of difference. Now, I don’t feel like I’m just “winging” it—I’ve got solid support guiding me every step of the way!

If you’re diving into the early stages of starting your online business, I’m curious—do you have a mentor? Share some of the lessons you’ve learned so far by dropping a comment below. I’d absolutely love to hear your insights and experiences!

Till next time.

  1. Hi Sherri,

Congratulation for your progress! Don’t forget to give yourself a pat on the back and celebrate!

If you were to ask me one lesson I have learned, it is this:

Don’t write your blog post on WordPress dashboard. If something happen to your internet connection, or you accidentally close your browser tab, you can lose hours of your work.

Write it on a word document and save regularly. Or use Google Doc, they save automatically.

  2. Sherri, well done, you’ve made really good progress. It’s a great summary of what you’ve done and in what order. I love it that you said at the end that you don’t feel like you’re ‘winging it’. That’s great progress because you’ve now got a mentor and a team and community around you that are doing the same thing and I helping each other. You’ve got a process to follow, can’t wait to see what you do next in building your business. How are you finding blogging and creating content? Thanks, Atif

  3. I can’t wait to see where your journey takes you! It’s great to catch you so early in the process, that way it will be that much more exciting when you’re that much further down the road! Happy to tag along for the ride!

  7. Hi, Sherri! Congratulations on your success so far!

A lesson I’ve learned so far? ,,, “Repeat.”
Do you know the phrase: Rinse and repeat? I’ve read that so many times on the back of my shampoo bottle!
I like applying that to my business.
Follow my routine today, then repeat.
So simple that it really works!

    Onward and upward, my friend!

  8. Hi Sherri,
Like Dean mentioned – never stop! Congrats on your continued success.
One quick note: your contact page link (the one just beside “my story”), is not showing up correctly 🙂
Making sure you continue on a daily & weekly basis will definitely bring you closer to the goals you’ve set for yourself.
Take care & looking forward to reading your continuing journey.
