Hey there! I’ve been on this blogging journey for about six weeks now, and let me tell you, it’s been a blast! I’ve been sharing my progress and the steps I’m taking for my online business in the hopes that it might help you on your own journey. It’s become my digital journal, a space where I can lay it all out.

I’m super excited to share my very FIRST WIN!

I’ve been using WordPress for my blogs and recently stumbled upon the Yoast plugin, thanks to a tip from a colleague. Yoast is like an SEO wizard that guides you on optimizing your content for search engines. I went for it because, hey, who doesn’t want optimal SEO, right? Yoast makes it easy with its straightforward tools and even offers some training. I opted for the free version, and it’s been a game-changer.

This little magical plugin checks everything from outbound links to key phrase length, and if you nail it all, you get a “Green Smiley Face.” And guess what? I’m thrilled to announce that for the first time in my blogging history, I got that elusive green smiley face! It feels like a major win. First Win!

I’ve been chasing that green smiley face for a while now, often ending up with orange or worse, red. It was a bit frustrating. But here’s the thing: diligence and experience are key. Being persistent and gaining experience is what got me there. It’s a lesson that goes beyond blogging; it applies to our online businesses too. First Win!

So, here’s to you getting that green smiley face and working diligently on your online business. Celebrate those wins, whether it’s your first or your umpteenth. Wins are always worth celebrating!

Have you tried an SEO plugin for your blog? How did you get your green smiley face? I’d love to hear your experiences, so drop a comment below.

Until next time!

  3. Hi Sherri, congratulations on this win!!!! I am installing the Yoast plugin right now! I am really grateful for this recommendation. I can’t wait to try it out. SEO is really important, and I have been curious about how to tackle this on WordPress.

  4. Green Smiley Faces are the bomb eh! Congrats on the win.

As suggested in training, I do not put much focus towards SEO in my business. But I figure working with the Yoast SEO plugin is the minimal effort I need to shout it out to the world.

  5. I was absolutely smiling as I read this! I feel like I was sharing in the excitement with you! This is indeed a big WIN and should be celebrated! Cake and champagne is appropriate, I believe. I’m new to this online business world, like yourself, and it’s such an amazing feeling when you see all your hard work starting to pay off. CONGRATULATIONS! I’m looking forward to your next big WIN! Cheers to more green smiley faces!

  6. Not sure this is your first win… sounds like there must have been a few wins to get to this point :0) but well done.

I have Yoast installed, but not looked at it yet, I guess I ought to start!

    Thanks for the steer.

  7. Congratulations!! That’s incredible! I hadn’t heard of Yoast, so I appreciate reading about your win.
It’s the little things that really help.

  8. Sherri,
Congratulations on your win!!! WordPress plugins are a great thing. They provide the ability to do all kinds of neat things like optimizing for SEO. I glad you found a great one to help you get your blog and blog post optimized.
I am sure it was very exciting achievement.

I would have to agree with Tony’s comment, I would be very surprised if this was your first win. After all how many wins id you experience in getting this blog setup? Just a thought. Still this is a great win to celebrate.

  9. Hi Sherri,

Congratulations! I might consider this plugin as well.
I was wondering if there are any other plugins that can help me change fonts, sizes and colors to my text? seems like I only have one to choose.

      1. Alan,
Yoast is this cool SEO plugin that gives you a hand with SEO tags, words, and all that good stuff. I don’t think it’s an Advanced Editor Tool, but I might need to dig into that a bit more. On the bright side, Yoast does have this nifty bulk editor tool, so that’s something worth checking out!

    1. Ernie,
I’m always excited about any WIN, and this one is especially delightful! Give it a look; I think you’ll enjoy it. Plus, I mean, who wouldn’t want a bit of help with SEO, right?

  10. Sherri, well done and congratulations. That’s a great first win. I have seen this add on but I’ve never used it and may well do in the future. It’s great that you got the green :-). What you could do is a video showing how to install it and how to set it up and indeed how to run it. And then you could advise people on how to change things so optimises the site to get green face. Thank you very much and well done. Thanks, Atif

    1. Atif,
Thanks for the comment. I’m totally into the idea of creating a video to demonstrate the installation and setup process. I might need to explore that – sounds like a fun project!

  11. Sherri,
I’d never heard of Yoast before this. I’m going through one of their tutorials right now. Very interesting. I’ll be adding it to my WordPress for sure. Thanks for the recommendation.

  12. Hi Sherri!
Congrats! I have to say Yoast is a game-changer for those who have decided to use it as a plugin. It definitely is a big help for all the reasons you mentioned.
My big question is: did they want to call it Toast but the programmer already had a bite in his mouth and tried to say “toast” but in came out as “yoast?”… 🙂
    Take care!

    1. Marc,
I do believe I remember you talking about Yoast in one of your blogs, so I thought I’d give it a go. It’s been pretty impressive – super user-friendly and a real help with SEO. And that “Toast” comment you made, haha, love it!

  14. Hi Sherri,
Great post! Congrats on you “WIN”!
I’ve heard of SEO related apps but I haven’t been using any at this point.
It’s good to know that Yoast has a good option for this and I’ll make a note of it for when I decide to start utilizing SEO. Thank you.
    Until your next post 🙂

  15. Hi Sherri,
Nice post, congratulations on getting your first green of many to come, thank you for sharing, since I was trying to find these tools in the new WordPress, I used before in my other blog, so thank you for sharing. I wish you all the best in your journey.

    1. Ezequiel,
I appreciate your comment! Achieving that green smiley face was definitely a thrilling moment for me. Now that I’ve got the hang of it, I know exactly what steps to take to keep this winning streak going!

  16. Hi Sherri,

I’ve got Yoast installed, but I’ve never seen a face of any color. I guess that I must be using it wrong. I’ll try and find time to look closer into it. I have to congratulate you on getting the full benefit from it. While we’re talking about plugins have you installed the “Classic Editor” plugin? I noticed that your text does not wrap around your images. If this is how you like it, then that’s okay, it’s your choice. I prefer to wrap my text around images, alternating their alignment left and right. You can do this using the Classic Editor, though you may have to learn a little HTML.

    Cheers
    Phil

    1. Phil,
Thank you for the comment. I will look into getting the “Classic Editor” plugin. I do appreciate the suggestion. Larning HTML is not a problem as I majored in computer programming in college. I actually like to program with HTML.

  17. I have been neglecting my SEO because it was just too much for my brain to handle getting started, but its been on my list of things to circle back to and get smarter on. Thanks for the recommendation on the Yoast plugin, I am certainly going to check it out!

  18. I don’t have a plugin like this, so I’m going to add now, I’ll see if I can get a green smiley face.

Thanks for the tip, and congrats on the win
